Coach Zach Barrett, has been involved in the game of hockey for over eighteen years. Growing up in the San Fernando Valley, he began traveling all over Southern California playing roller and ice Hockey. Zach has competed in the North American Roller Hockey Championships (NARCH) for several years. He has also played in SCAHA as well as the CAHA ice hockey championships. After moving to Santa Barbara five years ago, he has taken on the roll as High School Roller Hockey Coach for the past five seasons, as well as becoming the Rink Manager/Youth Coordinator for the Santa Barbara Hockey Association.

Goalkeeper coach Tim Hoyt was born and raised in Santa Barbara, and has been playing hockey for twenty years. He started playing in the GHL at San Marcos high school, at the age of nine, as a forward, and soon realized that goalie was the position for him. He started playing goalie at ten years old, in the GHL and at the old indoor rink; the ISC. He played goalie constantly for the next nine years, and was coached by a few great goalies, one being Jim Tilley, who is well known in this area. He stopped playing hockey for a few years to pursue martial arts, but has been back playing hockey at this rink for the last six years.

    Assistant coach
Erik Norton grew up playing roller hockey in the GHL until I was 15 when I started commuting down to Oxnard to play ice hockey. After four-years of midget hockey with the Oxnard Riptide and one-year of junior hockey with the Valencia Flyers, I started my five-year college career at Robert Morris University. I was co-captain three of my five years and helped lead the team to a Mid-American-College-Hockey-Association Championship. I am volunteering because I believe I can help teach technique and hockey positioning, as well as build character in the young adults that will help them advance in both their hockey careers and professional lives.

I started playing hockey when I was about 7 years old, and have been playing ever since with a little break in the middle. Growing up I spent a lot of time playing with travel club teams and enjoyed a few seasons with my college club team at Fresno State.  I volunteer my time because I absolutely love the game.  I feel like its like its a great privilege to have an opportunity to give back to the game that has provided so much joy over the course of my life.  I will be assisting Tim Hoyt with the goalies this upcoming season.

Former High School League Coaches & Managers

Central Coast High School Hockey League Director, Ivan Girling, our former Team Manager, first started playing hockey thirteen years ago, (at a quite advanced age), and has been standing between the pipes ever since. He coached for several years in the SBHA youth leagues, and also coached the Thunderbirds travel team for four years. He coached the highschool team for three years, turning over the reins to his much more qualified recreational league teammate, Colin Thompson, three years ago, when the latter expressed an interest in coaching youth hockey. (Sadly, Colin took a job in Berkley and left the team two seasons ago.).

Colin Thompson, has been involved in the game of hockey for over twenty years.  As a high school student in Ventura County, he competed in the Tri-Valley Roller Hockey League and the SCAHA Midget B Ice Hockey League, while competing in more tournaments than he can remember, both on and off the ice.  Upon graduating in 1996, he went on to play a season of ice hockey at Wheaton College in Massachusetts, before transferring to UCSB.  While a student at UCSB, he was recruited to referee the UCSB Intramural roller hockey games, quickly earning a promotion to Head of Officials.  Colin also gained valuable leadership and coaching experience at UCSB through several coaching classes offered by the Exercise and Sports Studies department, as well as through cadet training in the United States Army ROTC program.  He served as the head coach for both the varsity and junior varsity SBHA high school teams.

Steven Polchinski grew up playing roller hockey in the GHL at San Marcos High School. From
9th-11th grade, he played for the Dos Pueblos High School hockey team in the Central Coast HSHL and in the adult leagues at Earl Warren Show Grounds. In 12th grade,
Steven began playing ice hockey in Oxnard with the Channel Islands Riptide, then played for the UC Berkeley club ice hockey team from 2004-2007. Steven moved back to Santa Barbara from the Bay Area in 2011, and joined the coaching staff of the SB High School Hockey program beginning with the 2013-2014                         season. Coaching youth hockey has helped Steven rekindle his love for the game.
